The Power of 20 Herbs:

  • Gulab Ka Phool or Rose damascena: It is the ingredient from which the tea derives its name. It is a mild astringent, aperient, carminative and a refrigerent cardiac tonic. Its mild natural flavour is used to mask the taste of many bitter and pungent herbs. Rose damascene has mild laxative properties and is most often used for taking care of sore throats, enlarged tonsils. Its cooling effect t is very effective in providing relief from uterine haemorrhages.

  • Bark of the Arjun tree or Terminalia arjuna: Found primarily in India, the use of this herb was first discovered by ancient Indian physician Vagabhatta. The preparations made from the bark of this tree are known to have a stimulant effect on the heart. It is widely used in Indian medicines to treat conditions of the heart like cardiac failure and dropsy. It is also useful in removing stones from urinary system, besides helping in stopping bleeding.

  • Ashwagandha or Withania somnifetra: This one is an aphrodisiac. But it has its used in relieving chronic headaches, mental fatigue, nervous exhaustion, loss of memory, loss of muscular energy. It also helps in cases of senility and general debility. It is also known to be a cardiac tonic.

  • Banapsa or Viola odorata: These flowers are astringent, demulcent, diaphoretic, diuretic and aperient. They are useful in bilious affections, lung trouble, prolapse of the rectum and uterus, besides being an aid in cough, kidney and liver malfunctions.

  • Bari Elaichi or Amommum subulatum: This herb is stomachic and is used mainly allay any irritation of the stomach, even cholera.

  • Brahmi or Herpestis monniera: This is a cardiac and nervine tonic. Its leaves and stalks are diuretic. It is mainly used in cases of asthma and nervous disorders.

  • Badian-i-Khatai or Illicum verum: When had in the form of tea, it helps in curing flatulence and other spasmodic affections of the bowels.

  • Dal Chini or Cinnamomum cassia: This herb is perhaps one of the oldest in use in ayurveda and other forms of traditional medicines. Its first recorded use goes back to the time before 2,700 BC. It is a vascular and nervine stimulant. It is also carminative, antispasmodic and haemostatic.

  • Lemon Grass or Andropogon citrates: Very useful in cases of arthritis, rheumatism, indigestion and low back pain.

  • Long or Myrtus caryophyllus: It has many medicinal properties but is mainly used in treating spasmodic disorders and relieving flatulence. It is a stimulant and also helps in sluggish circulation, thus promoting digestion and metabolic activity.

  • Lal Chandan or Pterocarpus santalinus: It is used to treat cases of bleeding, piles, haemorrahges and dysentery.

  • Mulathee or Glycyrrhiza glabra: This is another herb which was widely used by ancient physicians like Susruta. It is an invaluable remedy for coughs and colds. It is said to be a sure cure for feverishness, pain and also effective in treating myopia. It is known to be a demulcent, diuretic, diaphoretic and vermifuge.

  • Nagar Motha or Cyperus scarious: It is a tonic, demulcent, diuretic and vermifuge.

  • Pudhina or Mentha piperita: This is an antiseptic, deodorant, stimulant and carminative. It is useful in cases of vomiting. It also helps improve digestion and is a preventive for griping.

  • Saunf or Foeniculum vulgare: It is an aromatic stimulant, carminative, diuretic and a purgative. It relieves flatulence and aids in removing catarrhal matter and phlegm from the bronchial tubes. When added to tea, it helps in the treatment of insomnia.

  • Shankh Pushp or Canscora decussate: It is used to treat cases of nervous debility. It serves as a nervine and alternative tonic.

  • Sugandha Bala or Pavonia odorata: It has a musk like aromatic flavour and is used as a cooling demulcent.

  • Sund or Zingiber officinale: Ginger as it is commonly known, is again a herb which goes back to ancient Vedic times. It has been known as Maha Aushadi by the ancients and is used as a carminative and anti-flatulent. It also helps in curing impotency and is also useful in dyspepsia.

  • Tej Pattar or Cinnamomum tamala: This herb is carminative, stimulant, diuretic and lactagouge. It is mainly used in case of cough, flatulence and dyspepsia.\
  • Tulsi or Ocimum sanctum: This has many properties, beginning from being an antiseptic to a nerve tonic as it helps in sharpening memory. It works wonders for the respiratory system as it helps in the removal of catarrhal matter and phlegm from the bronchial tubes. It also has a beneficial effect on the kidneys. It works against cardiac diseases and reduces blood cholesterol and stress.
  • GREEN TEA or Camellia sinensis: Rich in catechinpolyphenols, particularly epigallocatechingallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue, also effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots.
